IB + SEL Online Teacher Course (IB + SEL Online Teacher Course)
IB + SEL Online Teacher Course (IB + SEL Online Teacher Course)
Why take this course?
Social and emotional learning (SEL) is the set of competencies people of all ages work to develop in order to recognize their own emotions, manage their emotions and stress, work towards goals, establish and maintain healthy relationships, show empathy and respect for others, and make constructive choices.
The IB programme’s pedagogical approach focuses on some of these skills with an academic lens (for example with the ATLs and ATTs), but SEL is an important component to teach our IB students as well.
Why teach SEL in an IB classroom? SEL is a necessary component in our students. “For example:
✔️ 27% more students improve their academic performance
✔️ 57% more students would gain in their skill levels
✔️ 24% more students would have improved social behaviors and lower levels of distress
✔️ 23% more students would show improved attitudes
✔️ 22% more students would show fewer conduct problems
SEL participants demonstrated significantly improved social and emotional skills, attitudes, behavior, and academic performance that reflected an 11-percentile-point gain in achievement” (CASEL).
